4. Queen Elizabeth’s Wedding Dress
Queen Elizabeth’s wedding dress was designed by Norman Hartnell. The gown was made of Chinese silk, with allover floral embroidery and crystal and pearl appliques. Her wedding dress had a high neckline, tailored bodice, long sleeves, and a short train. At that time the designer was inspired by Botticelli’s painting Primavera. She paid him 42,000 for her royal ensemble in 1947. Today the estimated cost of the wedding dress is about $1.6 million.
